How to calculate O level Scores

As you look towards the finishing line of your secondary school journey, you may wonder how to track your progress towards your goals. So here, paradigm has prepared a step-by-step walk-through on how you can calculate your O-level scores!

Upon receiving your O Level results, you get the chance to decide which tertiary institution you hope to join through the Joint Admission Exercise! (JAE)

- Junior College (JC)
- Millenia Institute (MI)
- Polytechnic

Paradigm Math School 24

Junior College - L1R5

If you plan to enter Junior College, your admission will be based on your L1R5 score!

Subjects
L1 English or Higher Mother Tongue Language
R1 Any 1 best-scoring subject from Humanities
R2 Any 1 best-scoring subject from Mathematics or Science
R3 Any 1 best-scoring subject from Humanities, Mathematics or Science
R4/R5 Any 2 best-scoring subjects except Religious Knowledge

To enter Junior College, you must fulfil these 2 criteria:

1. Your L1R5 must not exceed 20
2. You must pass English with a minimum of C6 grade, one Math subject with a minimum of D7 and Mother Tongue (D7)

Furthermore, can deduct a maximum of 4 BONUS POINTS from your L1R5 score 🤯🤯

Millenia Institute - L1R4

If you are looking to enter into Millenia Institute (MI) via JAE, your admission will be based on your L1R4 score!

→ Millennia Institute (MI) is the only Centralised Institute offering a 3-year Pre-University course, leading to the GCE ‘A’ Level certification. (same certification as JC!)

Subjects
L1 English or Higher Mother Tongue Language
R1/R2 Any 2 best-scoring subjects from Humanities, Mathematics or Science
R3/R4 Any 2 best-scoring subjects except Religious Knowledge

To enter an MI, you must fulfil these 2 criteria:

  1. Your L1R4 must not exceed 20
  2. You must pass English with a minimum of C6 grade, one Math subject with a minimum of D7 and Mother Tongue (D7)

Furthermore, can deduct a maximum of 2 BONUS POINTS from your L1R4 score 🤯🤯

Polytechnic - ELR2B2

If you are looking to enter into a Polytechnic via JAE, your admission will be based on your ELR2B2 score.

Takes into account your first language (L1), two relevant subjects (R2) & your remaining best 2 subjects (B2).

The relevant subjects depends on the course you are looking to enrol in, so do take time to research on which course in the respective schools is best suited for you!

To enter Polytechnic, you must fulfil these 2 criteria:

  1. Your ELR2B2 net aggregate score must not exceed 26 unless you are applying for the Diploma in Nursing. To apply for the Diploma in Nursing, your ELR2B2-C net aggregate score must not exceed 28.
  2. Meet the minimum entry requirements (MER) of the course that you are applying for. Find out the MER of specific courses on CourseFinder or refer to this document for the consolidated MER of all courses.

Ways to deduct bonus points!

Deducting 2 points:

  • ALL: EXCELLENT for your CCA grades
  • JC: At least a C6 for Higher Mother Tongue (*only if you are not using your HMT for your L1!)
  • JC: At least C5 for Special Language Elective (only available in selected schools)
  • JC: Enter a JC affiliated to your secondary school as your 1st or 2nd choice
